Educational Leadership Endeavors

1. What kind of educational leader do you want to be?
Leadership is important in every institution and workforce.  Good leadership is what separates effective teams from ineffective ones.  I envision myself as a supportive leader.  One who recognizes my own strengths and weaknesses as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the staff.  I also want to be a leader who uses effective communication to establish initiatives throughout the school.

It is my vision as a leader to be someone who embraces and creates a positive and continual learning environment for staff and students.  I hope to be someone who stays abreast of new initiatives and guides, teaches, and supports my staff with professional growth.

2. How does the use of technology fit into the vision of your leadership and what you want for your school, teachers, students, and community?
I have learned so much about how to use technology to communicate with our students and families.  I have experienced so much success in this area.  It has opened my eyes to the free and accessible apps that are made available to educators that can open the lines of communication.  As an administrator I will uses these technology tools to continue to engage the community and my staff.

3. Summarize three main takeaways from this course and the accompanying activities/readings/videos/experiences in regards to technology & communication that changed the way you think about what it means to be a leader?
I started this course with a completely different mindset than the one I have now! Technology can be a very effective avenue for opening lines of communication with parents and the local community. I enjoyed learning about all the technology tools that are available to make communication so much easier.  I found success through Remind.com and Seesaw.

I learned through much of my reading that simply because our students live in a low socioeconomic environment whose parents may not be well educated it does not mean families care less about their children.  Positive communication should be the first step teachers take to engage students and families in the learning process.  Flyers are not the answer and technology can play a larger role in leading effective communication.

Finally, technology can be used as a tool to teach adults and children about many different topics.  By using technology devices such as the Padlet to encourage the sharing of ideas, we can engage learners and create meaningful discussions therefore enhancing the learning.

4. How will you enhance connected learning and digital tools in order to enhance your work as a principal?
I will definitely keep myself abreast of the new technology available to enhance communication.  Technology can effectively be used to engage staff in sharing their ideas and having widespread discussion about future initiatives.  I think about holding meetings and PLCs through live working documents where everyone can communicate at a time suitable to them.  Google is a large forum which is constantly adapting and growing to meet the demands of the workforce.

5. What do you still wish to explore and learn? What are your next steps?
I have so much still to learn.  I am proud of how far I have come and thank my professor and cohort for sharing so much with me.  Once I've made it through the principal certification I plan to further embrace technology and sign up for online courses that will take me forward as a learner!
